Millions of Americans are waking up to the truth: business ownership is the real path to satisfaction and wealth. In the next year, more than five million of them will make the leap and launch a company.
I think that’s great. But the number should be much bigger. Recent research shows that more than 2 in every 5 American adults—100+ million people—have plans to start a small business. Why do so few follow through?
I’d like to help you
find your way.
My team and I have spent the past eight years helping more than 1 million people get off someone else’s payroll and start a one-person company. I’ve noticed that at the beginning of the journey to business ownership, people run into a specific set of questions, holdups, and pitfalls.
The key to
entrepreneurship
isn’t bravery.
The way I see it, all the issues holding people back from entrepreneurship can be drilled down to a single root cause. People aren’t being truthful with themselves. To thrive as a business owner, you don’t need guts. You don’t need a big innovation. And you don’t need an MBA. You need the ability to be honest.
It’s honesty.
A clear-eyed assessment of facts, risks, and likely outcomes is more powerful than any credential, any how-to guide, and any one-liner from a motivational coach.
But being honest is hard. Looking past your assumptions, your ego, and the noise coming at you from all sides is hard work. Sensitive to the needs of people with addictive behaviours, I confront this on a daily basis. For me, staying grounded is a matter of survival.
Success starts
with asking the
right questions
Going Solo
newsletter
There are no special skills required to be honest. It does help to have tools. That’s why I launched Going Solo, my weekly newsletter. Each edition explores a question every small business owner needs to answer to stay focused on what really matters as they build the foundation for their business.
I’m not sharing hacks or cheat codes. Just simple tools anyone can use to get closer to the truth, get out of their head, and start building something great. Each question I share comes with a real-life entrepreneurship story, a research insight, or an example from my life about how to answer and apply it.
Sign up for Going Solo the weekly newsletter.
It is totally free, no strings attached.
